What Defender for Business covers
Defender for Business is enterprise-style endpoint protection, packaged for small business. Included in Business Premium, it gives you:
- Next-generation antivirus and firewall management
- Endpoint detection and response (EDR)
- Threat and vulnerability management
- Automated investigation and remediation
It is designed for organizations of up to 300 users. Larger organizations use Defender for Endpoint Plan 1 or Plan 2 instead.
What it is not
Defender for Business protects devices (endpoints). It is not the same as Defender for Office 365, which protects email and collaboration against phishing and malicious links. Defender for Office 365 is a separate add-on, or comes with E5. Business Premium does include some email protection, but the advanced Defender for Office 365 Plan 2 is an E5-level capability.
